| Grade 3 User Posts: 70 ![]() ![]() | http://www.paddlingabc.com Hey, So there has been some work put into this project and now it is sorta where we want it. We met back in the fall to talk a bit about this and not everything has been doable right now but it is presently working pretty well. I will need some help with a few things but first the highlights: Wikibased with easy searching River Alert system where you can easily alert other paddlers to hazards on the river River guide system that is very very simple to use and add information to. You can add a new river in perhaps 5 minutes if you know the river well enough. Online Map that is better than before River levels that are dynamically loaded from Alberta government and then assessed about whether they are highwater, low water, good to go, or too low. (I will need some help here with water levels more later) Help files explaining how to do more complex tasks like google maps creation You will notice that as you register not all pages are editable, this is because general users are restricted to edit river entries, links, and a few other things only as the format of the website is important. In the future I hope to add a custom homepage where you pick the weather you want to see, the river levels you want to see, and whitewhater news. I hope to fine tune the searching process as well so that it is possible to see for instance all class II and III rivers in the northern rockies that flow in the summer time. Now onto what I need some help with. First and foremost I would like people to use this resource and build on the framework we have created. If we can get more and more rivers on there then it will be more and more useful to more and more people. Currently I am limiting my additions to more or less rivers I have paddled (1 exception). I am not the most experienced or the best paddler out there so my personal list is sorta limited. This where you all come in. Secondly I need some help with the river levels section. I do not know Northern or Southern rockies super well. So for the following rivers I need the high water and low water numbers: Ram Brazeau Athabasca Sunwapta Castle Old Man Crowsnest Elk Bull This is still a work in progress but I would hesistantly say that it is 75% complete right now as far as structure. I will be working on the mapping portion of this project more now as the website is somewhat complete. We just need more and more rivers! Come one people take the 5-10mins to share your knowledge with the paddling community. Let me know of any suggestions changes, additions. We can still change things easily in this. | Grade 3 User Posts: 70 ![]() ![]() | Woops, I had disabled the add a river page for registered users by accident. My bad. It is on now. You will only be able to add a river to the database if you are logged in. If anyone else notices something like this let me know. Edited by Eric 2010-02-23 11:18 PM | ||

Grade 3 User Posts: 85 ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Jasper, Alberta | Hey Eric,Adding a river was quite straight forward. My only thoughts would be to create an 'add river' link or button from somewhere on the River guide Page, that way if you're looking for a river and you notice one missing you can just click add and create it. I'll try to put some time into adding a few more in the next little while but I've been crazy busy the last few weeks. As far as flows go I recognize everything in the area by landmarks so I'm no help on actual numbers. I threw a link up on www.bliss-stick.ca last night, hopefully you'll get a few more hits and as the site becomes better known the river guide will expand a bit.CheersAndrew | ||
